Is it necessary to change your other belts with your timing belt?

I have a 99 Acura Integra LS with 101,000 on it. Some repair shops say that they go ahead and change the other belts while others don't. Is this a necessary procedure? Also, would you recommend taking my car to a Honda/Acura dealership to change the timing belt or is it okay to use any repair shop certified with ASE mechanics?

Necessary? No. But since the labor is essentially %26quot;free%26quot; (those belts have to come off regardless) it is not a bad idea to change them with the Timing Belt. If you change them later, it will cost more. If the belts are more than 4 years old or worse, original, I would definately say it is a good idea, but you don't have to.

Any decent repair shop can handle a T-belt replacement job. You don't have to use the dealer.

every 4 years or 50K miles change em all

also if they have more than 10 cracks per inch

its a pain when they break in the middle of nowhere at 3 AM
The reason you want change the belts is you are already in there with everything apart. Makes sense to start with new everything after the repair. Necessary? No. Prudent? Defiantly!
Unless you just feel like spending more money, just go to your friendly neighborhood shop. If you realized how easy it is to change these belts you would not have to take it to the %26quot;rocket scientists%26quot; at your dealership. Your car manual should say what interval to change other belts. Why not, they are probably like 30 bucks a piece? Your car should only have 1 other belt.
You don't need to, but you better...

Your timing belt is the most sturdy belt of all. If you haven't replace the other belts recently, and your timing belt needs change, the other belts sure need to be replaced. is better to change them now than risk a belt failure.

I will trust any good mechanic for this job. no big deal.
u dont have to replace the external belts when u do a timming belt service but u should...by 100k there well cracked and warn...no sence in gettin stuck by a broke belt when u could of had them replaced in time...as for where to get it done....your acura is an interference engine so i would much recommend taking it to a dealer...for the simple fact that if they replace the belt and dont get it right it will ruin the engine....yes the dealer cost more usually but they are trained and have done many of them.
if the other belts are still good, then i cant see no reason to change them.sure the shop would say that, cause they arent the ones buying them, but no if they are good,i cant see no reason.
