Is 600 dollars about right for timing belt change on a 1997 Prelude?

For 600 they change:

Timing Belt

Water Pump

Drive Belts

Coolant Flush

4-5 hours of labor

COST = $600

Is that good or no?

Considering the timing belt and the waterpump can be changed at the same time, it should be a little less. It took me about 1-2 hours to change them both ( had a problem getting the crank off)

If you don't have experience with doing this then have a shop do it. Everything else can be done at home for a cheaper price with everyday tools.

your ac belt and alternator belt can be changed at home just by loosening up the bolts removing the belts and putting on the new one and then tightening up the bolts again ( less than 30 minutes)

the fluids can be drained into a jug or something and refilled in about 30 minutes also

If you can do these things alone and have a shop repair the pump and timing belt, it should be considerably less. prolly 250$

but yes, if a shop had to fix everything that you mentioned for you, then it would be roughly around 450-600 for parts and labor.

I hope this helps, thank you for reading and for the question.

Coolant is easy to do yourself. He's probably not charging you anything for the belt since he has to remove them to do the timing belt. I'd say 600 bucks sounds about average. There's a ton of writeups on how to do it yourself if you want. I did the timing belt and water pump on my fiance's Mitsu 3000gt. It's a pita but you come away ~$400 richer.
Well, you might be paying $100 per hour and that's expected. You might find cheaper parts, but that would compromise reliability. Shop for a cheaper price for labor, but make sure the mechanic has experience with this engine. You might save money doing your own coolant flush.
Be sure they use only genuine HONDA COOLANT. I assume this is a Honda dealer, right??? Good price!! If it includes all parts + water pump.
For all that it's great. It's a little on the cheep side even. mark your screws and mke sure they do the work they promised.
