Any ideas on the cost or ease of changing timing belt is? vw Jetta 99?
i own a repair shop,and unless you have the proper tools to do this one with its better to let a shop do it,,it takes a few specialty tools for this one,and if the belt slips while your putting it on,,its not going to run right at all,i usually charge around 100 bucks for this one,,parts labor and all and that's a lot better than having to pay more to get it straitened out,,shops charge more if someone has messed with it before,,you can use this price as a guide for getting it done,,it should save you some money on the repair,,good luck with it,i hope this help,,,have a good x-mas.

Unless you are pretty mechanically savvy, allow the shop to do this one. Requires some special holding and timing equipment. Very easy to get in over your head, then have to pay %26quot;Basket-Case%26quot; charges for re-assembly.
