I am changing timing belt and was told to change other related parts, is that right? what are the parts n cost

On many cars the water pump runs off of the timing belt and is in the same area. Since it takes a long time to get to the belt then it is usually worth it to just replace the water pump while you are in there. If you do it at thesame time it may only cost $100-$200 to do the water pump. If you wait and then need it later it maycost $500 just to do the water pump because they have to go through all the same labor again. If your water pump runs off of the timing belt then yes I would reccomed changing it. If not then just do the belt and any idlers or tensioners that control it.

Won't answer on costs

but you have been correctly advised regarding other parts

It's not unknown for a tensioner or idle pulley to fail

this will throw the cam belt

possibly causing severe engine damage

hope this helps
I don't know which part of the world you are from and what car you are driving. But the mechanics will basically replace your water pump and all other belts that your car uses (air-con, alternator, etc). The cost will generally hovers between USD250 to USD350.
Depends on the car,if it is a little front wheel drive 4 cylinder, probably want to do the water pump too.
Hiya,

Working part-time as a mechanic so think I can help.

Usually Cam-Shaft, water-pumps and the works... The timing belt thingie is typcially based on your PM (Preventive Maintenance) manual. Better to get the PM items changed than to wait for them to break down (the towing and delay's not worth it...)

Suggest you download it from site for your own future reference. It's typically A LOT cheaper to get it done at a trusted workshop than back to the agent... unless you get riped off..

Cheers,
