Have you ever noticed vibration after changing a timing belt on a toyota? It is a 93 Corolla. Causes?

I have just had a mechanic change the timing belt on my girl's 1993 toyota corolla hatch. It drives ok but it gets random vibration during deceleration. There is also a distinct noise made, like a low tapping sound, when the vibrations are occuring. Has anybody ever had this issue with a timing belt change before? I would like to know a bit of information before I go back and speak to the mechanic.. Thank you!!!!

To change a timing belt on this Toyota, the central engine mount at the %26quot;front%26quot; of the motor needs to be removed. This means supporting the engine on a jack until the new belt is in place.

I'd just talk to the mechanic. Tell him what the problem is.

Possibly, some other engine mount could be faulty, given the age of the car.

Another possibility is the exhaust pipe/ system is now contacting the bodywork somewhere. This might explain the tapping.

Also check for separation of any heat shields on the exhaust manifold or pipes.

The belt change on this model is very easy. If something else was disturbed when doing the job, it is probably incidental (again considering then age of the car).

Vibration that occurs %26quot;especially during deceleration%26quot; certainly would make me suspect something like above.

could be the timing belt tensioner or maybe they loosened a motor mount up to get to the timing belt and didnt tighten it. id go back politely and tell them what is going on and you want it fixed
